Bulamu is a vernacular word which means ” Life”.  In 2009 we formed the Bulamu Community Group to respond to needs and effect positive change in our community.

The group is based in Nabwereu sub-countries of Wakiso District in Uganda and exists to help the vulnerable women and children, elderly and disabled persons in our community.

Have you heard this saying? “If a man is hungry and you give him a fish, he will be hungry again tomorrow.  If you teach a man to fish, he will never go hungry again.” In places like ours, where there is great need, there is nothing more people would dream for than to be “taught to fish.”  Being able to provide for oneself and one’s own family is something most people would prefer, instead of just accepting handouts.  We, the Balamu Community Group are working according to this principle of teaching a “man to fish.”

We intend to create stable incomes for families and households through sustainable development and for each person to live a positive, happy and hopeful life.  We envision a free society with opportunity for all and intend to play a vital role in social and economic development by carrying out programs that emphasize:

  • HIV/AIDS Awareness
  • Poverty Alleviation
  • Environmental Awareness
  • Human Rights Advocacy
  • Support for widows, orphans and abandoned children

The vision of the Bulamu Community Group also includes

  • Empowering people to address issues confronting them
  • HIV/AIDS awareness and counselling for those affected
  • Increasing HIV/AIDS awareness through music, dance, drama, sports and community outreach
  • Involving people in economic activities
  • Training women and young mothers in modern skills
  • Home-based care and support for daily needs
  • Health promotion activities
  • Protection and promotion of the rights of children and women

BCG has worked in partnership with Bulamu Treatment Centre on the campaign of HIV/AIDS awareness in the community.  The prevalence of this disease is severely impacting social and economic development and we see a sense of hopelessness and increasing despair among widows and other members of the community.  We have tackled the problem of HIV/AIDS, however there are challenges ahead to expand the program!

In addition, Bulamu Community Group has already opened up a partnership with Kathrin Zabel in Germany and the door is still opened to all volunteers, well-wishers, women and child advocates and promoters from any part of the world who would like to make a joint hand of meeting the numerous challenges, problems, circumstances and injustices that vulnerable women, child mothers and orphaned children here face on a daily basis.

It is indeed a awesome organization that Pastor Peter has established to provide for the need of the less fortunate. I pray that borders be enlarged and favor compassed him like a shield. Philippians 4:13; I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
